Trump wins second term, Republicans win big in Pennsylvania on Election Day

Donald Trump will become the of the United States after earning the necessary electoral votes in the early hours of Wednesday morning.聽

The race for president was in recent memory, with a that led to Vice President Kamala Harris鈥 , followed by against Trump. After a campaign of , Harris fell short of the necessary 270 electoral votes and is likely to lose the popular vote.

Trump, who had begun his , has clinched 295 electoral votes as of Thursday and is expected to earn up to 312 once Nevada and Arizona 鈥 both leaning Republican 鈥 are counted, compared to Harris鈥 226.聽

The tense 2024 presidential election was expected to be . The election results heavily on the , particularly the blue wall of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Every single swing state went or is for the 2024 election.

After three critical swing states 鈥 North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania 鈥 were , Trump took the stage in Palm Beach, Florida, at around 2:30 a.m. to . He called his election win 鈥渁 magnificent victory for the American people鈥 during his 25-minute address.

鈥淲e are going to help this country heal,鈥 Trump said. 鈥淭his will truly be the golden age of America.鈥

Trump thanked a number of members on his team and other prominent members, including Elon Musk. He called his 2024 election efforts 鈥渢he greatest campaign of all time.鈥

Harris supporters into Wednesday morning at Harris鈥 alma mater, Howard University. Cedric Richmond, Harris鈥 campaign co-chair, addressed the crowd in lieu of Harris, telling them that Harris would speak later on Wednesday.聽

At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Harris gave her at Howard University. The crowd was filled with tearful supporters, but Harris reassured them that the fight wasn鈥檛 over.

鈥淚t is OK to feel sad and disappointed, but please know it鈥檚 going to be OK,鈥 Harris said. 鈥淥n the campaign, I would often say, 鈥榃hen we fight, we win.鈥 But here鈥檚 the thing, here鈥檚 the thing 鈥 sometimes, the fight takes a while. That doesn鈥檛 mean we won鈥檛 win.鈥

Harris called Trump earlier that afternoon to on his presidential win.聽

鈥淲hile I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign,鈥 Harris said. 鈥淗ear me when I say, the light of America鈥檚 promise will always burn bright. As long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.鈥

In Allegheny County, Democratic Representatives and each earned a second term. But across Pennsylvania, Republicans saw major victories. three-term senator Bob Casey to help flip the . , and 鈥 Republican candidates for Attorney General, Auditor General and Treasurer, respectively 鈥 all won their races against Democratic challengers.

In Harrisburg, Republicans maintained control of the state Senate while the as of Thursday. The remaining tiebreaking seat is held by a Democratic incumbent.

On Thursday morning, and spoke about his commitment to a 鈥減eaceful and orderly transition鈥 with Trump. Biden applauded election workers and the integrity of the electoral system. He told Americans that 鈥渟etbacks are unavoidable, but giving up is unforgivable.鈥

鈥淲e all get knocked down, but the measure of our character, as my dad would say, is how quickly we get back up. Remember, a defeat does not mean we are defeated,鈥 Biden said. 鈥淭he America of your dreams is calling for you to get back up. That鈥檚 the story of America for over 240 years and counting.鈥
